“So who do you want me looking after this time?” David asked his boss. “Dickhead who got linked up with some people he should not have because he thought he could make a few quid? C list celebrity is desperate to look important and thinks a man in a black suit will help? Or a dodgy business person who has been fucking over their suppliers?”
“Show a little respect for the people who bought you that nice little car of yours, will you? And none of the above, as far as I can tell. Bit of a weird one. So obviously, I thought of you. Before I explain, I probably should ask what experience you have with girls who escort Madrid visitors but I do not want to know the answer. So I am just going to crack on with the briefing if that is alright with you.” It was a statement, not a question.
“Oh, thanks.” David couldn’t take offense, he owed Tony too much for pulling him out of too much shit. “I promise to be duly respectful of our meal tickets in the future if you let me have a couple of weeks off and give Mr or Mrs Weird to someone else. Seriously, mate, my toes have gone to sleep after the last three months.”
David had been on a CP job with a public schoolboy actor who had hit sudden fame playing a vampire love interest in a series of films. He was playing a character who was supposed to be a six hundred-year-old teenager even though he was nearly thirty. So maybe the vampire thing worked because three months with him had sucked the life out of David.
He was supposedly there because the posh little shit had received concerning fan mail. But he was there to make the no-talent ass hat look important because he had a bodyguard going in and out of clubs and restaurants. Strangely enough, there were always photographers everywhere he went at night. Well not surprising really as Dave saw and heard him emailing and writing to journalists, pretending to be his PR agent and telling them where he was going to be. And then ripping his agent a fresh one and accusing them of putting his life in danger.
And he got away with it, so maybe he could act after all.
